…Poetry
The deeper experiences of life arise from both the mundane and the momentous; their depth in our life is the measure of their impact upon a heart. These poems represent some of those moments from my own life…

Waiting…
I waited on the wind,
For the lift of hope
That would fill the sliver of space between feet and soil,
While castles melted into stallions before stretching into cottony wisps
That drifted away…
Beyond the reach of a tethered soul.
Decades beyond my childhood dreams,
I face those breezes again
And a sweeping gust still stirs my soul
Thrilling what hope remains to once again soar
And finally carry my heart Home
On silvered wings.

“Reach…” (For Matthew)

Your passion of the moment;
An unblinking frog.
Your focus as you reached with five-year-old skill
for the unattainable
Made me smile even as it broke my heart.
Encircling your waist as you leaned with eager certainty,
I breathed a prayer that you’d always stretch beyond the edge of the pond.
And as we watched your green prize swim calmly away,
And you happily began your search again…
I knew that you would.

Grandma’s Face
Beautiful wrinkles;
Moments of triumph and concern
Can be traced in the graceful lines
Of your soft skin.
You hate them, I know…
You see imperfections.
I see the sweetness of your heart
Displayed as a treasure
In the finest of galleries.
With time, your focus has risen to a place above the horizon.
Your assurances, affirmations, and love remain closer than a heartbeat
And are just as vital to me,
But heaven has become a more familiar place…
I will not wait for tears
And our eventual absence from one another.
Life will happen.
We will live it well.
But please know Now,
Today,
How very much I love you…
And those beautiful wrinkles.
